Hi, I’m Becca Sloan! I’m a Graduate Intern currently working under the supervision of Emily Vanderpool, our practice Owner/Director. Before coming to counseling, I spent a decade teaching, and I have a master’s degree in education. My time as a teacher gave me a deep well of practice walking with kids and teens through the everyday, messy work of growing up.

I work with clients across the lifespan, from young children through adults, though my years in the classroom left me with a particular love for working with children and adolescents. My clinical approach with children begins with Child-Centered Play Therapy and draws on more directive play therapy techniques depending on what each client needs. In my work with adults, I’m exploring the integrated use of CBT, DBT, IFS-informed parts work, and somatic approaches.

At the heart of all of it is a single idea: wholeheartedness. I believe that so much of what brings people to therapy — anxiety, disconnection, old wounds, stuck patterns — is really a story about a heart that’s been guarded, fragmented, or worn down. My goal is to walk alongside my clients as they move toward living with a more whole heart: one that can be honest about pain, curious about its parts, and open to connection again. Whether we’re building that through play, conversation, or skill-building, I bring warmth, patience, and genuine care into every session.

Outside of work, I’m a parent myself, so I love to spend time with my husband and our two kids. I love sewing and quilting, cooking and baking, reading just about anything I can get my hands on, and swimming to clear my head.
